The United States of America. We are a nation for whom our founding fathers insisted every human be granted “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Yet it’s difficult to have life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness when you are laying cut to pieces in the trashcan of a Planned Parenthood “health center.”

Planned Parenthood is our nation’s largest provider of abortion services, performing 327,166 last year (roughly 1/3 of all abortions performed in the U.S.). The number of abortions performed by Planned Parenthood works out to be 37 per hour, or roughly one every 90 seconds. In 2014, more than $528,000,000 of our taxpayer dollars went to fund Planned Parenthood, which was 41% of its total revenue.

Additionally, recent videos have emerged that have even further exposed the evil conducted by Planned Parenthood – the selling of baby organs. One former director of a Planned Parenthood office noted her branch made about $120,000 a month selling aborted fetus tissue and organs.

As Planned Parenthood counts their money, the anger and wrath of a holy God in heaven only intensifies.

This Sunday at Pleasant Valley Community Church, we will address the topic of abortion and Planned Parenthood. We will do so for three primary reasons.

1) To be a voice for those who have no voice.

No one can hear the cries of the more than 1 million babies we kill every year because we are silencing them before they ever make it out of the womb. These children need a voice, and the church of Jesus Christ is to be that voice. The Bible calls us to defend the weak and the helpless.

2) We live in a world where the respect and dignity of human life has almost completely wasted away.

It is because we live in a country where if you kill a bald eagle you will be fined half a million dollars and could spend up to a year in prison, yet after you murder the baby in your womb you can go out dancing at the club the next weekend. It is because we weep when we see a puppy lying dead on the side of the road, but we are basically unaffected by the fact that in Nashville and Louisville (just 2 hours away) there are waste baskets filled with blood and body parts of human beings created in the image of God.

3) Christians are called to expose darkness.

Ephesians 5:8-11 “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light, (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.”

Expose what? Expose the works of darkness. For Christians, it is not enough to simply avoid works of darkness (such as abortion). That is only half of our duty. We are not simply to avoid the works of darkness, but God calls us to expose them.

This is precisely what we will do at PVCC this Sunday.

After all, abortion is not “just another issue.” Often Christians are accused of in being limited in our thinking – that we focus so much on the issue of life at the expense of education, the environment, etc. We are not saying those things are not important. What we are saying is that God may not like a dirty environment, and God may not like over-priced healthcare, but Proverbs 6:17 says that God hates hands that shed innocent blood.

We can deal with high taxes and high gas prices, but as Christians, we cannot silently tolerate the murder of human life.

I can’t stand the kind of service that we will be having this Sunday – I despise it. Because it should never have to happen in the “land of the free and the home of the brave.” There should not be a need for a Sunday like this. Such a service should be as unnecessary as a “Don’t Kill Your Parents Sunday.”

We are a nation that slaughters our little ones, and their blood cries out for mercy.

May we hear their cries.
